My very good friend Robert passed away yesterday. I've known him since the early days of hack3r.com.
First and foremost, yes, he passed away on April 1. Second, NO this is not some sick sadistic April fools joke.
He was my friend. My first friend I have ever lost. The first person who ever understood my mind. The first person who allowed me, to be a part of something great(minus my parents of course, seeing as they got me here).
Hack3r.com flourished in the early 2000's averaging 1 million unique hits a month. I eventually got to meet this wonderful man(in person not on a terminal) in August of 2002 at Defcon 10.
He allowed me into his vision of hack3r, and where he wanted it to go. In 2004 after the site was shutdown he let me help him there,
In 2005 I launched a new version of the site on Jan 1, as his xmas present. He loved it. He told me he loved it. I loved it. We all loved it.
During this time of resurrection, we played many video games together. SWG, WoW, EVE.
We pillaged, burnt towns, caused havoc.
Hey Epic, remember when we won that 2 hour battle against Transcendence, man that was fucking sweet.
What about when we had that guy put all his minerals in the town hall, then he threw some hissy fit about god knows what, so we gkicked him and stole millllions of minerals and started our own LOTD Armor.
Jesus man, we had some great times.
In 2006 on Jan 1 we launched an even newer of hack3r.com.
Remember 2007? When we went to Novell, sat in front of a bunch of people and made a difference in their lives?
2008, February, We launched hack3r.com v3. Site hits are back up to ruffly 300 uniques a day.
Epic, you and your legacy will live on forever, and I will be damned if I let it go to waste. Your community that you built and allowed me to be a part of is the reason I am where I am today, and I will never ever forget that.
I love you man.
You are the ying to my yang.
Rest in Peace
Holy Fuck.
I had no idea.... I have been so busy with uni and shit, I haven't been on irc, I haven't been staying in touch...
Today I had a spare minute, so I thought I'd see what H3C was up to... and then this....
What can I say? EPiC was a guy who treated me with respect, when I probably deserved none; who always had a minute to teach and to learn; who was humble despite the effect he has had on hundreds like myself.
It's a really sad day when the pixels of a terminal take on a harsh new reality; testament to the fragility of life.
Peace, mate...
ocyrus, keep it up mate, I'll be in touch...
Bobby
Just wanted to say that it's really nice of you to pay tribute to Bobby the way you have. You guys must have been really special to him as he was to you and everyone that knew him. Keep it alive.
